Genesis of the Project

When Mannan (1992) proved to be a success, Rajinikanth promised Sivaji Productions he would act in his 50th film.
Rajinikanth was impressed by the 2004 Kannada film Apthamitra, directed by P. Vasu, who adapted it to his 50th film as a producer.

Remake Lineage

Chandramukhi” is a remake of “Apthamitra,” which is modeled after the 1993 Malayalam film “Manichitrathazhu.
